Some Kings
Let's talk about the "No Kings" protest and the government shutdown, yo.
7 million citizens across the country left their homes to attend the “No Kings” protests. From sprawling cities to destitute rural towns—Americans joined forces in protest of the increasingly harsh realities of the current presidential regime calling military to our streets, ruling with not a check nor balance.
Shout out to everyone in attendance.
Always healthy to get offline and meet people who, too, share the growing belief their rights are evaporating and action is required to prevent future generations from returning to Feudalism—a world of wealthy lords, their personal assistants and the various local indentured servants tasked with the labor and maintenance of their lord’s manor.
But is it all too late?
Like, do we already have a king?
We’re about a month into a government shutdown.
Here are some fun, little, cute facts from the Bipartisan Policy Center:
At least 670,000 federal employees are furloughed, while roughly 730,000 continue to work without pay.
1.3 million active-duty personnel and over 750,000 National Guard and reserve personnel are also required to serve, potentially without pay.
If the shutdown continues through December 1, roughly 4.5 million paychecks will be withheld from federal civilian employees, representing approximately $21 billion in missing wages.
The government shut down on October 1st after Republicans and Democrats could not agree on a new spending bill when the budget expired earlier this month.
Although Republicans currently control all branches, Dem senators have some negotiating power—withholding their vote for the new budget until the bill includes an extension of tax credits that makes health insurance cheaper and a reversal of Trump’s Medicaid cuts.
It’s not as if they’re arguing every day to compromise. No real negotiations are even happening. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) won’t hold a session and Trump is going to Asia for a week.
And you know he’s going to do one of those accents…
Please, Mr. President, keep your two index fingers away from the corners of your eyes.
Growing up, getting yourself a government job felt like the safest way to meet your needs. Paycheck every two weeks, health benefits, braces for your kid with the weird overbite, pension, job security—the works.
Nowadays, a government job is the fast track to homelessness.
Whether it’s Elon Musk, a man with at least 14 children, most of them he doesn’t even know, randomly firing thousands of employees for fun, (illegally) or Trump spending hundreds of millions to build a new White House ballroom while saying he won’t tap into the government’s reserves to fund SNAP benefits, a crucial resource used by 1 out of every 8 Americans.
Actually, that’s not true. Not all federal jobs are bear traps.
There is one government job with unlimited resources, perks and benefits: politician.
Millions upon millions of Americans on the brink of losing their access to medicine thanks to the cruelty masked as “fiscal responsibility” by elected officials who, upon winning their positions, are instantly welcomed into a world with unlimited health coverage.
In the ‘20s, Congress created the Office of the Attending Physician—free in-house, cream of the crop doctors, along with a la carte treatment at Walter Reed Hospital—like when Trump got Covid, almost died, went to Walter Reed and came back healthier than ‘03 LeBron.
In the 50’s, legislators joined the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, covering 75% of all insurance costs—a genius move, protecting them from their own votes stripping Americans of healthcare.
The government is shut down. Millions of Americans will lose jobs, income, health insurance, food, shelter.
The New York Times reported food banks are preparing for a surge. People so terrified of Soviet Union bread lines seem totally okay with American bread lines.
And no one is attempting to solve anything.
Donald Trump claimed a desire to “drain the swamp”, fix the broken bureaucracy and corruption preventing America from advancing to a more prosperous future.
In reality, all he’s done is put billions in his family’s name—thanks almost entirely to manipulating cryptocurrency, selling magic beans to rubes and sycophants.
What type of leader only enriches themselves while their citizens starve?
Well, a king.
I’ll be honest, I’m reallyyyy starting to think this Trump guy is a rotten egg, I’ll tellyawhat.
